The healthcare initiative: An overview

Since 2004, Fomento Resources have been developing special medical clinics for the benefit of the local communities in the Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Each clinic distributes free medicines, provides health checkups by experienced medical practitioners and operates a 24 hr ambulance service. In 2008, each clinic location treated an average of 300 patients a month.

Apart from regular treatment, each clinic location operated ‘health awareness workshops’ to educate the community on subjects ranging from personal hygiene to disease prevention.

Fomento Resources did not just restrict their services to the young working adults, but extended it to the entire community. The elderly generation received free spectacles at the eye awareness camps and free consultation and checkups at the diabetic and hypertension detection camps.

A first for many corporate initiatives was the provision of occupational therapy services for children with special needs. The clinic ‘occupational therapy team’ addressed the needs of children suffering from autism, visual or audio impairment. In 2008, the team covered 104 children and began volunteering its services to various other special schools and associations in each location.
