G.E.T. AN EDUCATION
On the occasion of Goa’s Liberation Day, the Dempo Group and the Fomento Group have launched the GOA EDUCATION TRUST (GET) on the 19th of Dec, 2009 at the hands of the Honorable Chief Minister of Goa Mr. Digambar Kamat.
Both the groups are well known in Goa as also in other parts of India for their contribution towards social causes ranging from education, medical care and child and women development. Both the groups have long felt the need to provide Goans an efficient medium to pursue the best available opportunities in education, in whatever areas they desire. It is with this intention that the seed of forming a channel for higher education was germinated and it is today that the seed is seeing full bloom with the launch of the GOA EDUCATION TRUST.
GET will be a public charitable trust, established for the purpose of providing opportunities by granting scholarships to students of Goa to sponsor their further studies in the United Kingdom. It will provide scholarships and/or research fellowships etc. to Eligible Students for their post graduate studies in the United Kingdom in all spheres, fields and departments.
It is also the intention of GET to invest in the future of Higher Education in the state of Goa, by means of facilitating exchange of faculty members of educational institutions in the State of Goa with their counterparts in the United Kingdom that will enable them to improve the quality of education in Goa and promote prospects of higher studies.
The Dempo Group and the Fomento Group will both equally contribute to the corpus required for GET. This corpus will be to the tune of approximately Rs. Ten Crores over the next five years.
British Council, will be partnering with GET and will be taking care of the administrative issues with regard to the selection of the Eligible Students. The British Council enjoys an enviable reputation of managing scholarships for studying in the UK. Therefore the Goa Education Trust has invited them to manage the newly instituted Scholarships programme.
