Fomento Resources to build captive jetty for bauxite export in Maharashtra

Alliance News 2010-09-24 08:10:05

The Fomento Resources Alliance received final approval for construction of a captive jetty in Umroli village in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. The jetty provides a further boost to the Alliances venture into bauxite development, having been granted a twenty year lease for developing bauxite in the Gudeghar taluka on August 10th 2010.

On September 17th 2010 - the Chairman of the Maharashtra Maritime Board accorded his approval for the construction of the captive jetty to Infrastructure Logistics Pvt Ltd - a member company of the Fomento Resources Alliance.

The jetty will be exclusively used for the export of bauxite from the Gudeghar Lease. It is expected to commence operation in a year with an initial loading capacity of 3, 00,000 tonnes. Future loading capacities are expected to reach 1- 2 million tonnes.

A senior official of the Alliance informed that bauxite on barges, departing the jetty from the Savitri River will be loaded midstream onto ships by a self grab vessel or crane.

The twin developments of the bauxite lease grant and approval for the jetty mark significant progress for the alliances foray into development of new mineral resources other than iron ore.
