The alliance launched an extensive cleanliness drive in the village of Shigao to deal with the problem of disorganised garbage collection. The effort led and coordinated by the Shigao mines team worked closely with the village panchayat to dispose of the garbage.

In regards to the implementation, Mr D.P Pawar - Manager of Fomento Resources’ at Shigao conveyed:  “A team of people, identified by the panchayat cleaned the entire village area and roads at regular intervals, using green dustbins placed at strategic locations. He further added that all costs of the exercise were funded by the alliance.
Post the cleanliness drive, the alliance plans to embark on a greater objective to make the village of Shigao – “plastic free”. To start with, the villagers will be encouraged to replace plastic with paper, cloth or jute bags. These bags will be manufactured by local women groups, who will be remunerated for their efforts.  Depending on the successful effort at Shigao, the alliance plans to implement the “plastic-free” movement at its other locations.
