78 meritorious students awarded Gyan Jyoti Puraskar

Ashiyana Day and Gyan Jyoti Puraskar ceremony was celebrated here on February 2 amidst much fervour, gaiety and fanfare before the full house at Ravindra Bhawan, Margao in Goa. Ashiyana Trust, a part of the Fomento Resources, is committed to empowerment of women, health, education and children, have already awarded 212 students scholarships in the past to help them complete their graduation.

Further to this, a batch of 78 meritorious and needy students from the state of Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka were awarded Gyan Jyoti Puraskar on February 2. All these students are from different schools from these three states and they range from Class 6 to 10. With this, the total number of students benefitted under this scholarship has touched a mark of 290.

The award certificates were distributed by Chief Guest of the function, Mr Dilip Borkar, a renowned writer and Chairman of Goa Konkani Academy, followed by Guest of Honour, Mr P.K. Murugan, Vice President (Commercial) of the Jindal Steel Works (JSW). The Certificates were also distributed by Special Guest and Chairperson of Ashiyana, Mrs Vinni Timblo. Founder Director of Ashadeep School for special children, Advocate Mr Vijay along with noted choreographer Ms Mamta Hussain also gave away the scholarship certificates.

The function started before the packed Ravindra Bhawan Hall with colourful cultural dance shows by special children choreographed by Ms Mamta Hussain and received thunderous applause by the audience. The Chief Guest and Sahitya Academy Award Winner , Mr Dilip Borkar in his speech which quoted noted lyricists and poet Gulzar, said that such endeavours undertaken by Ashiyana will go a long way in producing writers and creators. He encouraged all those present in the function by asking them to keep this good philanthropic work going.
Guest of Honour, Mr P.K. Murugan, Vice President (Commercial) of JSW narrated an emotional story of his experience and said that he was emotionally touched by this good work of Fomento Resources.

Advocate, Mr Vijay said that Ashiyana does believe in making a defeated story into a victorious one and he thanked all for this effort of granting of scholarships to meritorious students. Chairperson of Ashiyana, Mrs Vinni Timblo assured her commitment of support to school for special children Ashadeep, and said that the company will touch lives of all people in and around the environment of its operation.
While Col. A.K. Sharma, Vice Chairman of Ashiyana Trust, read out the annual activities report of Ashiyana, Ms Vinni Fernandes, Principal of Ashadeep School proposed the vote of thanks.
